Learn 4 Summer

Sarit Swift

Hi! My name is Sarit Swift and I am from Boca Raton, Florida. I am 17 years old and a junior at Katz Yeshiva High School.

I was homeschooled up until 8th grade. My parents wanted to teach me critical thinking skills and believed that homeschooling was the best way to do so. Though homeschooling was great, it did have its downfalls. For example, I learned some Judaics, but it was not the same as my friends in private Jewish schools. I did not learn Navi, or how to write Hebrew script until I was 13 years old, something most of my friends knew since elementary school. In addition, I had few friends due to being homeschooled from a young age.

I joined NCSY in 9th grade, as soon as I could. I joined because I thought it would be exciting and a good opportunity to make new friends. What I did not know was that NCSY would change me for the better.

When I started NCSY, I knew little about leadership and being a role model. As the years went on, I slowly became more and more involved. I now serve on chapter board and partake in multiple leadership programs, learning about nonprofit organizations and how they contribute to the Jewish community. But that is not enough. I want to learn more about my history, about what it takes to be a leader, and about giving to the Jewish community.

This is why I believe JOLT (Jewish Overseas Leadership Training) is the best program for me. JOLT is a program in which teens like me go through the concentration camps in Poland, run a camp for unaffiliated Jewish children in Austria, and finally, go to Israel. Going on JOLT, in addition to being my first time in Israel, is an opportunity of a lifetime.

This summer, I want to learn more about my heritage and connect to the Jewish community in a different way than I ever have. I want this opportunity, and the only way I can do it is if I am able to raise enough money. So please partner with me to help me learn, grow, and become a leader within the Jewish community. No donation is too big or too small.

Thank you so much!
